JAMES V – THE LOCAL LEGACY
An illustrated presentation by local historian Bruce Jamieson, featuring the impact made on the local area by King James V and some events of his reign. The Stewart monarch was born in Linlithgow Palace in 1512, and although his reign was short-lived, it impacted greatly on the burgh – as will be revealed in St Peter’s on Saturday, 16th May.
KING IN CONTEXT
Dr John McGregor will explore the wider background to the minority and personal rule of Scotland’s James V (1513-42). “This was a period of transition” is a never-failing truism that has served to pad out many a desperate student’s assignment; but it certainly applies particularly to 16th century Europe. Whatever the fortunes of the Stewart dynasty, the changes in progress during James’s lifetime would not have left Scotland untouched.
Tickets £5, all proceeds to the Battle 500 project.
