Summer term is here at

Far From The Madding Crowd!

We’re hurtling towards summer, despite what the weather is telling us, and here at Far From The Madding Crowd we’ve lined up some brilliant events and offers to get us through to the holidays!

Independent Bookshop Week kicks off on 15th June and we have some AMAZING offers and authors coming to visit us! We’re bookending the week with two fantastic signings, and in between we’ll have loads of special offers, discounts and exclusive editions up for grabs!

Join us on Saturday 15th June at 11.00am when John Patrick Green, author and illustrator of the wildly popular InvestiGators series, will be here for a signing. We’ll have books for sale, or of course, bring along any of his books that you already have if you’d like to say hello!

The following Saturday 22nd June, we are the first stop on the #IBWBloodyRoadTrip2024! Lin Anderson, James Oswald, DV Bishop and Douglas Skelton will all be popping for a signing at 9.30am! Please come along and say hello, and bring them a coffee!

Also starting on Saturday 15th June is the first Linlithgow Lucky Tenner event! Running in the fortnight leading up to the school holidays, see how far your £10 will go in your favourite Linlithgow shops and businesses. Every business has something different on offer so please check the High Street Trader’s facebook page for the latest updates.

Far From The Madding Crowd Bookshop’s offers are:

  • Week 1: Buy TWO general fiction paperbacks for £10!

  • Week 2: Buy a children’s fiction paperback & a children’s activity book for £10!

On Monday 1st July the Gruffalo is heading to Linlithgow!

He’ll be visiting the Low Port Centre to help us tell some stories and do some craft activities. There’ll also be plenty of opportunity to get photos with him.

The event will last for 90 minutes in total, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and there will be an opportunity to buy books at the event.

Tickets £8 for a family of up to 6 people.

Once sold out, we are running a waiting list in case of returns, please contact: info@maddingcrowdlinlithgow.com for details.

Later in the summer we are celebrating local woodworker and author Callum Robinson’s debut book, Ingrained, a stunningly intimate portrait of a true craftsman.

Linlithgow residents may know Callum from his work creating beautiful and unique pieces at Method Studio - he and his wife Marisa (a designer and lecturer) also had the M74 furniture shop on the High Street for a few years.

We’ll be talking all things wood and West Lothian in the beautiful surroundings of Bonnytoun Farm on Tuesday 27th August at 7.00pm.

Tickets £8, includes refreshments and discount on book sales at event.

And finally…

Later on in the year we have two very special events: An Afternoon Tea with Sue Lawrence and our first ever event with Mairi Kidd to celebrate her latest novel, Specimens, set in the dark world of Burke and Hare.

Tickets for both available now, more information on our website!
